Ryan Giggs' opponents may be some distance away from seeing the back of him, after the Welshman indicated he could play on beyond next summer.

Giggs is contracted until next June at Manchester United but, as he turns 40 today, has no plans to hang up his boots just yet.

The Manchester United stalwart was named a player-coach by new manager David Moyes earlier this summer, but has carried on his work on the pitch.

Six Premier League games later, Giggs was quoted by the BBC as saying: "I still want to do well in every game, want to win trophies and my focus needs to be on that.

"I'm lucky that I have been at one club, where I am surrounded by good players and a good manager.

"It can be hard sometimes but I am still enjoying it. As long as that is the case I will carry on."

Giggs made his Manchester United debut in 1991 and has won 13 league championships in his career – part of a 34-trophy haul.
