Barcelona and Borussia Monchengladbach face an anxious wait this week after goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen admitted a decision on his future was imminent.

Ter Stegen is widely being tipped as the replacement to the outgoing Victor Valdes though Gladbach have been keen to tie him down to a contract extension beyond the current 2015 deadline.

The saga came to a head of sorts in October when it was revealed that Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta had already spoken to the player's agent and family.

However, Ter Stegen, who is also a €10m Juventus target, told Bild: "There will be a decision in the next few days. All managers know what is going to happen!"

But when asked if the decision was pointing towards Cataluniya, Ter Stegen added: "I did not say that.

"We will talk soon with [Gladbach sporting director] Max Eberl and CEO Stephan Schippers on my contract and everything will come out."

It was initially expected that Barcelona were willing to buy him for €8m plus bonuses adding up to €10m, but that Gladbach would not settle for anything less than €12m.

Things were complicated by the fact that Gladbach were believed to be looking at Fortuna Dusseldorf goalkeeper Fabian Giefer as a potential replacement.

And Barcelona could further throw a spanner in Ter Stegen's works if they choose to take on Thibaut Courtois – currently on loan at Atletico Madrid – who is also one of the favourites.
