Alexander Buttner's agent has admitted that Serie A side Genoa want to sign his client on loan, but has stressed the ball remains clearly in Manchester United's court.

The Dutch left-back has struggled for regular first team football at Old Trafford this season, with Patrice Evra proving to be something of an immovable object.

And for Buttner that is a concern, with the World Cup approaching and the former Vitesse man hoping to catch Holland coach Louis van Gaal's eye.

Genoa are keen on Buttner, while Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with moving to take him on loan.

And Aleksandar Bursac, Buttner's agent, has struck a positive note over the chances of his client heading elsewhere on a temporary basis to secure playing time.

"Could he arrive in Italy? It could be during the winter transfer market, but the deal obviously depends on the intentions of Manchester United", Bursac told Tutto Mercato.

"The Red Devils are going to have to focus on the guy, so I think that a transfer could take place in the form of a loan.

"I know that Il Grifone [Genoa] have made a request to Manchester United. I have had contact with the Genoese and I think we can do the deal as a loan."

Bursac also addressed talk of interest in Buttner from Roma.

"In the past I have also had contact with the management of the Giallorossi, but I am not aware of recent interest from Roma with regard to my client."
