Marc-Andre ter Stegen has firmly opened the door for a Barcelona move by confirming he will leave Borussia Monchengladbach.

The goalkeeper is expected to leave in the summer, especially with Barcelona seemingly hankering for his services, and Gladbach had been slowly getting used to the idea.

Atletico Madrid's on-loan goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had all-but-given-up on joining the Catalan club as Victor Valdes' replacement.

And despite there being initial hope on extending Ter Stegen's stay at Gladbach beyond 2015, the 21-year-old has made his position clear.

A short statement from Gladbach's director of sport Max Eberl on their official Twitter feed read, "Marc has told us that he will not accept our offer", with a paraphrased message saying "Ter Stegen will leave".

It was already clear for some time that Barcelona had been monitoring Ter Stegen.

The club's sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta was even understood to have made a personal visit to Germany to speak with Ter Stegen's family and agent.

Next summer Ter Stegen will be exiting Gladbach after four years as a senior player at his boyhood club.

He has so far made 117 appearances for Gladbach.
