Manchester United have been pushing to FC Porto for defender Eliaquim Mangala, but the Portuguese giants have decided not to sell the French defender until at least the summer.

The Red Devils have money to spend in the current transfer window and the pressure is on manager David Moyes to freshen things up at Old Trafford following a disappointing season so far.

And according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, the Premier League champions want to sign Mangala from Porto to strengthen their defence.

But they are pushing against a firmly closed door, as the Dragons do not wish to part with the 22-year-old mid-season and will fight tooth and nail to keep him in Portugal.

Mangala's stock has been steadily rising due to consistently fine performances for Porto.

He joined the club in 2011, switching from Belgian giants Standard Liege for around €6m.

The powerful defender made his senior France debut last year and is hoping to push for a spot at this summer's World Cup.
