Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's bid to replace injured Theo Walcott has seen him return to his homeland, with a €10m offer lodged with Lyon for forward Alexandre Lacazette – but which has not been good enough for Les Gones.

Walcott was recently ruled out for the remainder of the campaign due to a knee ligament injury, something which has caused Wenger to admit he may need to "accelerate" his transfer plans for the current window.

And 22-year-old starlet Lacazette has fallen firmly onto Wenger's wanted list.

According to French outlet But, the Gunners have contacted Lyon to propose a €10m deal for Lacazette, though that was swiftly rejected by the Ligue 1 club, who rate the France international in a much higher price bracket.

Lyon are believed to have financial concerns, though that has not resulted in president Jean-Michel Aulas consenting to breaking up the club's current young crop.

Indeed, despite financing a new stadium, which is at the nub of the monetary issues confronting Les Gones, Aulas has recently rejected a €17m proposal from Napoli for Maxime Gonalons.

Now he has followed that up by refusing to play ball with Arsenal for Lacazette.

It remains to be seen if Wenger will return with a higher bid before the window slams shut.
