Newcastle United remain desperate to sign Montpellier midfielder Remy Cabella this month.

Cabella has been interesting the Magpies, along with fellow Premier League club Manchester United, but Montpellier have always been opposed to selling the playmaker in the current transfer window.

However, coach Rolland Courbis recently hinted at a softening in the club's stance, claiming a sum that it is impossible to refuse may arrive and he would hope to sign two or three players to replace Cabella.

And according to Eurosport, Newcastle remain determined to sign the 23-year-old this month.

Should the Magpies submit a bid for Cabella it remains to be seen how Manchester United, where the midfielder has also been firmly on the radar, will react.

Cabella has appeared in 19 of Montpellier's 20 Ligue 1 games so far this season.

The 2012 champions are struggling in 17th and Cabella has previously insisted he cannot leave them in such a predicament.
