Pablo Osvaldo's winter is going from bad to worse with Southampton suspending the striker for a fortnight over a training ground incident.

The news comes just a few weeks after Osvaldo was handed a three-match ban for his involvement in a melee during Southampton's game against Newcastle United in December.

The Italy international was also fined £40,000 for that incident, though it is not clear what has prompted the latest punishment.

A club statement today read: "Southampton Football Club has today suspended striker Dani Osvaldo for two weeks, following an incident at the club’s Staplewood training ground.

"The club has taken swift and proper action for what it considers a breach of the conduct expected of its players. Southampton will be making no further comment on this matter."

Osvaldo, linked with moves back to Italy with Inter Milan and Fiorentina, has already served the three-game ban.

The suspension means he has not featured for Southampton since that 1-1 draw against Newcastle, which also saw Magpies coach Andy Woodman sent to the stands and fined £1,250.
