West Bromwich Albion forward Nicolas Anelka has turned down the chance to join Lazio following an offer from the Biancocelesti.

Anelka was subject to Lazio's approach over recent weeks, according to Corriere dello Sport, but has refused to leave the Hawthorns.

Anelka only joined West Brom last summer from Juventus but has been short of goals for the Baggies, in what is also a tumultuous time off the field.

The Frenchman has come under fire for his controversial quenelle celebration, and is expected to contest an FA charge over the same.

Amid all this, the opportunity to leave England had presented itself this month, with Lazio eager to shore up their attacking options owing to injuries.

Germany and Lazio striker Miroslav Klose has already indicated his preference for the MLS, while midfielder Ederson's season was ended with a thigh injury last week.

The Serie A giants are also facing the prospect of players moving out, as midfielder Hernanes and defender Mickael Ciani become linked with moves to Manchester United and Norwich City respectively.
