Galatasaray coach Roberto Mancini has advised his club against signing John Heitinga from Everton, on account of the qualities he is looking for in a defender.

Heitinga is looking to leave Everton this month in search of regular first team football and Galatasaray had emerged as a potential destination for the Dutchman.

But according to Voetbal International, Mancini has told the Galatasaray leadership that he wants a different type of defender, one that is stronger in the air.

Mancini has a number of other potential targets in mind and Heitinga appears now to be out of the running for a move to Istanbul.

The Holland international turned down a switch to West Ham earlier this month, deciding the Hammers did not represent the right move.

Heitinga is thought to have a number of other suitors, including Italian giants Roma.
