Manchester City will not be seeing their desired FC Porto duo of Eliaquim Mangala and Fernando with financial barriers scuppering the deal.

According to the BBC, Porto were demanding more than £40m for both players, who were in mixed situations today amid the speculation.

Mangala had been given a show of faith by Porto coach Paulo Fonseca by making tomorrow's matchday squad, though Fernando was left out.

Fonseca had even gone on to claim that Fernando was a good-but-replaceable player, during his pre-match press conference.

However, at this point, neither player will be heading out the door, ending Manuel Pellegrini's deadline-day hopes.

The Chilean had been given bad news to begin with today, as Sergio Aguero was ruled out for a month, and then remained coy on potential transfers during his pre-Chelsea press conference.

"For the moment, there is no transfer news," he was quoted on his club's twitter feed as saying. "There may be business but I have no news at the moment."
