Leeds United manager Brian McDermott admits that an Italian player turned up for training at the club earlier today whom he does not know.

McDermott has been at the centre of a saga over the past 72 hours as he was informed on Friday evening that he was being sacked.

That word is thought to have come from Cagliari owner Massimo Cellino, who is in the process of buying a 75% stake in the club.

However, Leeds' current owners GFH Capital insisted on Saturday that McDermott remains in charge and he has taken training today.

But he encountered a squad with a new player in Italian Andrea Tabanelli, signed on loan by the club when McDermott appeared to be no longer manager.

And the former Reading boss admits he does not know who the 23-year-old is.

"Gianluca Festa [former Middlesbrough defender and friend of Cellino] was at the training ground this morning as we have an Italian player", McDermott said via the BBC.

"I don't know the player. He came on the transfer deadline day.

"Whether that's been ratified by the football league I don't know. If he has been ratified he will get the utmost respect and hopefully he can help us."
