Borussia Dortmund's injury worries are going from bad to worse after news that Marco Reus and Sven Bender now facing a spell on the sidelines.

Dortmund are already without Jakub Blaszczykowski and Mats Hummels for the foreseeable future, in a season that is far from going to plan.

The club are third in the Bundesliga, well off the pace of leaders Bayern Munich, and are even in danger of missing out on second place.

It could make the injuries to Reus and Bender all the more difficult to take, though Dortmund did manage a 5-1 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday.

"Borussia Dortmund will be without Sven Bender and Marco Reus in the coming days and weeks," a club statement read.

"The midfielders were injured in the Bundesliga game at Werder Bremen on Saturday afternoon.

"The investigations by the team doctor Markus Braun on Sunday afternoon showed that Sven Bender [has injured] a muscle in his right thigh and he is expected to have to pause for one week.

"Marco Reus retired, according to Dr Brown due to a torn muscle in his right thigh. Reus is expected to be out for two weeks."
