PSV Eindhoven coach Phillip Cocu is hoping to find a solution over Tim Matavz by the start of next week, after his failed medical with Rubin Kazan.

Matavz could not finalise his move to Russia this week after reports that knee problems had scuppered the examination.

The centre-forward was understood to be nearing his €8m transfer, while his agent had continued to express hope on the same.

Matavz is now back in Holland – his medical was believed to have taken place in Germany – but has not been included in PSV's squad for the weekend.

"The transfer to Rubin Kazan did not come about, after it became known that the striker had not successfully completed the medical," Cocu told the club website.

"This is indeed a difficult situation for both Tim and PSV.

"Given the developments, it is not wise to include him in the squad. After the weekend, we hope for more clarity."

Matavz has been largely out of favour at PSV this season, while the Rubin move was expected to bring a significant salary boost as well.
