Barcelona centre-back Carles Puyol has decided to leave Barcelona at the end of the season, according to Catalan daily Sport.

Puyol's future has been of much interest in Catalunya this season, owing to the injuries that have restricted him to just four appearances in the league.

While Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino had to deny any notion of an exit in mid-December, a fresh injury last month may have altered the equation.

With the club also giving enterprising young defender Marc Bartra a contract extension, Puyol is considering his options.

The 35-year-old is himself contracted until 2016, but is now believed to be ready for an exit.

He is unhappy at the workload that a club like Barcelona have to endure, given his own physical state at the moment.

According to Sport, Puyol is unable to play more than a game every week as Barcelona tackle their own treble chances.

Should the exit speculation be true, Puyol should, at least, be in with a chance to play for a title, given he has made six appearances in Barcelona's run to the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrd.
