Manchester United are testing Roma's resolve to keep hold of Kevin Strootman, being ready to pay €37m to sign the Holland international.

Strootman was strongly linked with moving to Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven last summer, but then-manager David Moyes chose to pursue other targets and, when he returned to the chase for the midfielder after failing to sign Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara, Roma had closed a deal.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a positive first season with Roma, burnishing his reputation still further.

And with Holland coach Louis van Gaal set to take charge at Manchester United, the Red Devils are back at the table for Strootman.

Roma, who dispensed €19m to sign Strootman, do not want to lose the midfielder after just one season, but face a battle to keep him away from Manchester United.
