Inter Milan are set to rival English giants Manchester United and Liverpool for Benfica’s attacking midfielder Nicolas Gaitan’s signature this summer.

Gaitan joined Benfica from Argentine outfit Boca Juniors in 2010 for a transfer fee of €8.4m as a replacement for Angel di Maria who left for Real Madrid.

Gaitan has been on the radar of a number of European giants for the last two seasons and it seems Inter are the latest club who have joined the queue for the Argentine.

The Nerazzurri are believed to have enquired about Gaitan through official channels, but Benfica are not willing to sell the Argentine without a fight, according to Tutto Mercato.

An offer of around €25m might do the trick, but it is doubtful that Inter would pay a hefty sum for a player this summer.

With Inter unwilling to pay big money for the 26-year-old, it opens up the field for Liverpool and Manchester United, who have a long standing interest in the Argentine.

Inter’s Italian rivals Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain have showed interest in the Argentine in the past, but Benfica’s transfer fee demands may put off some of Gaitan’s suitors.
