Benfica are ready to rival Swansea City for the signature of FC Twente striker Luc Castaignos this summer.

The 21-year-old striker joined Twente from Inter Milan in 2012 and has so far scored 27 goals in 65 league appearances for the club.

The Dutch outfit’s chairman Joop Munsterman recently announced that that club had reached an agreement to sell the striker to Swansea.

The deal was supposed to be completed once the transfer window opens next month, but in a recent twist to the tale, Benfica have entered the race to sign Castaignos this summer.

The 21-year-old is more interested in joining Benfica than Swansea because of the involvement of the Doyen Sports Group, who partly own the Dutch striker, according to Dutch daily TC/Tubantia.

The Doyen Sports Group acted as facilitators in the transfer of Ola John from Twente to Benfica in 2012 and are also looking to play a crucial role in Castaignos’ transfer.

Swansea are in for a real battle this summer as they try to convince the Dutch Under-21 international to move to Wales this summer.
