Newcastle United are confident of beating Stoke City to the signature of Monaco striker Emmanuel Riviere in the coming days.
Riviere has attracted much interest this summer amid speculation he could be on his way out of the Stade Louis II.
Stoke registered an interest in the player several weeks ago, however Newcastle have recently joined the race to secure the 24-year-old marksman.
And according to French sports daily L'Equipe, the Magpies are confident of pushing a deal for Riviere over the line sooner rather than later.
Monaco scooped up Riviere from fellow French side Toulouse in January 2013, splashing out €4m to tie him to a four-and-a-half-year contract in the principality.

He hit the back of the net four times in the latter half of the Ligue 2 campaign that season, following it up with ten goals in Ligue 1 for Monaco this term.
Riviere has represented France at every international level beneath the senior side.
