Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has praised youngster Tyler Blackett after an impressive performance in the club's 3-1 win over Real Madrid.

Goals from Ashley Young (21st and 37th minutes) and Javier Hernandez (80th minute) downed the European champions at the Michigan Stadium, Real Madrid only able to reply through a Gareth Bale penalty in the first half.

Van Gaal gave Blackett 45 minutes to impress and the young defender took his chance, catching the Dutchman's eye.

But while Van Gaal has no doubt over Blackett's ability to play at a high level, he is unsure on his consistency.

"He can play at this level, but can he play match after match? I can't answer at the moment", Van Gaal told his club's site.

The former Barcelona manager was also pleased with the manner of his side's win, claiming the game was not played like a friendly.

"The game was not a friendly. Real didn't want to lose… we won and deserved to win", he said.
