Barcelona are plotting a move for Bayern Munich’s Germany international defender Jerome Boateng.

Boateng joined the Bavarians from Manchester City in 2011 and still has four years left on his contract with the Bundesliga club.

The Catalan giants signed left-back Jeremy Mathieu from Valencia earlier this month and are still actively scouring the market for central defenders.

Bayern Munich’s Boateng is the latest addition to the long line of defenders that have been linked with a move to the Camp Nou this summer.

The Blaugrana are closely monitoring the 25-year-old and are plotting a move for the German World Cup winner, according to Marca.

Boateng has the ability to play in any position across the back four and it is this versatility that has attracted Barcelona’s interest this summer.

However, he will come at a price and if Barcelona are serious about following up on their interest they will have to fork out a hefty sum to get the German international.

Bayern Munich are under no pressure to sell Boateng and the Blaugrana might have to place a bid of around €39m to get their man.

Boateng has made 131 appearances for Bayern Munich and has also earned 44 international caps for Germany.
