Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal admits he is playing the waiting game over Jonny Evans, who was forced off against Leicester City today in his side's 5-3 defeat.

The centre-back was replaced by Chris Smalling in the 30th minute after appearing to hurt his ankle following a kick. He sat on the bench in the second half with a protective cast around his foot.

Now Van Gaal is waiting to see how long Evans will be absent for, but the Dutchman revealed the Northern Ireland international is currently on crutches.

"I don't know how bad Evans is", the Manchester United manager said via his club's site.

"We have to wait for a scan tomorrow but he is on crutches", he added.
