Real Madrid custodian Iker Casillas believes that leaving Los Blancos for a club abroad would give him the chance to realise what the club represents.

The 33-year-old has spent his entire career at the Santiago Bernabeu, but has recently found himself out of favour, having managed 53 appearances for the club over the course of the last two seasons.

This, according to the Spaniard, made him think of leaving the club as he wanted to avoid the feeling of being a "bother" to Los Blancos.

But he changed his decision and opted to stay on and fight for his place in the team.

"I thought about going. If you're a bother and you don't want to have any run-ins with anyone… What you want is for Real Madrid to always win", Casillas told Canal +.

"But in the end, at 33 years of age, you think, why should I? I want to fight, to make a go of it, to be reborn form the ashes."

The desire to play for another club though remains, as he believes that it will allow him to appreciate Real Madrid.

"I would like to have some experience abroad before retiring. I think it would help me to appreciate Real Madrid even more.

"I am convinced that if you go abroad, you will realise what this club represents for the whole world."
