Robin van Persie admits he needed a goal, after scoring in Manchester United's 3-0 home win over Hull City this afternoon.

Chris Smalling put the hosts in front in just the 16th minute, before Wayne Rooney added a second in the 42nd to send Manchester United in 3-0 ahead at the break.

Manchester United were dominant and Van Persie got his goal in the 66th minute, celebrating with aplomb.

It is a strike the Dutchman, who has been low on confidence, felt he surely needed. And he was delighted to get it.

"I was glad to score – I needed that goal to be honest", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

The Dutchman also feels his side could have won by a greater margin.

"We played really well, you could see that in way we passed the ball.

"Every week it gets quicker and better.

"Today it could have been 4-0 or 5-0", Van Persie added.
