Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has agreed to join West Brom and is linking up with Tony Pulis' side.

Fletcher had been poised to join West Ham over the weekend, but the Hammers changed the terms of the deal and wanted to first take the midfielder on loan, something which saw the move collapse.

Now Fletcher has signed for West Brom, with the Baggies announcing: "Albion are delighted to welcome Darren Fletcher on free transfer. Our new No.24 has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with a 12-month option."

The veteran Scot has been allowed to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer; his contract with the club was due to expire at the end of the season.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal insisted he would be happy for Fletcher to remain at Old Trafford, with the midfielder one of his vice-captains.
