Barcelona midfielder Alex Song is on the verge of yet another loan spell at West Ham as the Premier League side are reluctant to pay a fee to take him to Upton Park on a permanent basis, according to Catalan daily Sport.

Song is reported to have arrived at West Ham earlier today to undergo a medical check with the Hammers.

The 27-year-old spent the 2014/15 season in England after moving on a season-long loan deal from the Camp Nou, having fallen down the pecking order at the Catalan club.

The former Cameroon international was more than handy for the Hammers during his stay, having managed an overall 31 appearances.

As a result Slaven Bilic's side are eager to extend his stay in England, but are unwilling to meet Barcelona's valuation

North London giants Tottenham have also shown keen interest in securing the services of the former Arsenal man in the last few hours, but it seems that the Hammers have now won the race to sign the midfielder.

Having kicked off his career with French outfit Bastia in 2001, Song made his senior debut for the same side in 2004. He moved to England to join Arsenal first on loan in 2005 and then on a permanent basis the following year.

He secured a move to Spain to join Barcelona in 2012, but gradually lost favour and was loaned out to West ham last summer.
