Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic was forced off through injury in Fenerbahce's 3-2 defeat at Besiktas earlier today, but not before he had been praised for his speedy play.

Markovic is on loan at Fenerbahce from Liverpool for the season and was included from the off in the Istanbul derby match at the Olympic Stadium.

His pace caused genuine problems for the Besiktas defence and Turkish sports daily Fanatik dubbed the Serbian "Usain Bolt" for his speedy display.

However, Markovic's promising performance was cut short by an injury in the 35th minute.

Markovic was replaced by Volkan Sen, who could not help stop the Yellow Canaries slipping to a 3-2 loss.

A Simon Kjaer own goal put Besiktas ahead in the 20th minute, before Mario Gomez then extended the Black Eagles' lead four minutes later.

Fenerbahce pulled a goal back in the 32nd minute through a Dusko Tosic own goal, while Robin van Persie then made it 2-2 by striking in the 65th minute.

But Gomez scored again in the 74th minute to secure all three Super Lig points for Besiktas and leave Fenerbahce disappointed.

The Yellow Canaries will now wait for word over Markovic's injury.
