Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes Dwight Yorke could have a similar impact to that enjoyed by Slaven Bilic at West Ham if he is appointed the new Aston Villa manager.

Aston Villa are searching for a new boss following their decision to sack Tim Sherwood on Sunday. The ex-Spurs boss paid the price for a poor start to the season which has seen the side collect just four points from ten Premier League games to sit bottom of the table.

Former Lyon boss Remi Garde has been installed as the favourite to take over, but ex-Aston Villa striker Yorke is keen on the job.

And Ferdinand, who played alongside Yorke at Manchester United, believes that he could have an instant impact at Villa Park.

Ferdinand took to Twitter to write: "A bit late i know, but Aston Villa start the merry go round for managers….will they let a new man on the ride (Dwight Yorke)?!

Bilic, a former West Ham defender, took over at Upton Park this summer and has presided over a superb season so far for the Hammers.
