Steve Evans has cooled talk of Leeds United being interested in re-signing striker Luciano Becchio.
The Argentine was spotted in Leeds at the weekend, which sparked talk that he is set to rejoin the Elland Road outfit, especially as Evans is on the lookout for a new hitman.
But Evans says he has not had any contact with Becchio and although he enjoys a good relationship with the striker, Leeds are looking for players to join at once and produce an instant impact.
"I’ve had no contact with Luciano so the rumours about him are news to me", the former Rotherham United boss told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
"I had a great relationship with him at Rotherham and he’s a terrific lad, but I’ve not spoken to him for about 12 months now", he continued.

"If he’s in Leeds, whatever the reason, I’d be very happy to catch up with him for a coffee, but only for a coffee.
"He was very good for us at Rotherham, but it took us six or seven weeks to get him properly match fit in the first place.
"After that he started to look like the player we knew he was. With where we are at just now, we’re looking at players who can come in and make a difference immediately."
Becchio turned out for Leeds between 2008 and 2013 and scored a total of 86 goals for the Whites, becoming a firm fan favourite in the process.
The 31-year-old was a target for Leeds last season under former head coach Neil Redfearn, but the club's owner Massimo Cellino opted against signing the striker and loaned Albania international Edgar Cani as an alternative.
