Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn has brushed off criticism regarding his team's inability to be more sharp in front of goal of late, insisting that handling that extra bit of pressure is part of their job.

The Gers have lost one and drawn one of their last three matches, not showing a similar kind of sharpness as they had shown during the early part of the season and are thus being criticisd by some fans.

Waghorn, who started off his career in the Premier League and has experienced playing under pressure, is not new to the scenario and insists that pressure like that comes along while signing for club of Rangers' stature.

However, the 25-year-old striker insists that the fans also have to keep in mind the fact that teams have been setting up more defensively in order to counter the attacking threat from Rangers.

In spite of that his side have lost only one and drawn one of their 14 league matches and will continue doing what they can in order to win.

Speaking about the pressure of playing for Rangers, the striker told his club's official website: "I think that was always going to come with playing at Rangers Football Club. We have started so well and we scored a lot of goals early on.

“We’ve not been as clinical in front of goal or scored as much as we could, but that’s down to teams setting up more defensively and holding their shape to make it difficult for us.

“However, we’ve only lost one game and drawn one, and people are going on like it’s a slump which is crazy but it’s something that we have to deal with.

“It’s a challenge for us to break teams down on a Saturday and find different ways to get through and score goals – it’s a good challenge.”

Citing examples from his time at Wigan Athletic, Waghorn added: “You never want to lose a game or draw one, but down at Wigan for example, if we lost a game then we got over it, you had another game to do that.

“Where we are in the league there will be pressure and that’s the case at a club like Rangers and everybody wants to see you lose, but we want to win.”
