Arsenal starlet Gedion Zelalem has had his character saluted by Rangers manager Mark Warburton following a difficult day at the office for the young midfielder.

Zelalem is on loan at Rangers and was named in the starting line-up for a home Scottish Championship game against Morton by Warburton.

While Rangers started brightly and took the lead through Kenny Miller in just the second minute of the match, they were pegged back in the 31st minute when James Tavernier put the ball into his own net.

Zelalem was brought off on the hour mark and Morton then looked to have set themselves on course for victory by scoring in the 82nd minute through Stefan McCluskey.

Rangers however hit back when Martyn Waghorn turned the ball in from a Lee Wallace cut-back and the game ended 2-2.

Zelalem was guilty of surrendering possession and made a series of mistakes, but Warburton was pleased with how the youngster reacted.

"That's how he learns", Warburton told Rangers TV.

"Don't forget he's 18 years of age.

"He made a couple of mistakes today, but he never hid. He always showed for the ball and that speaks volumes for the character and the quality of the player", the Rangers boss added.

With Hibernian drawing 1-1 at home to Falkirk, Rangers' three-point lead at the top of the Scottish Championship table remains intact, despite two dropped points.
