Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed that the Black Cats have approached Arsenal to enquire over signing right-back Mathieu Debuchy on loan for the remainder of the season.
The Stadium of Light outfit currently find themselves in 19th position in the league table and are one of the favourites to be relegated this season.
Debuchy has struggled to cement a place in Arsene Wenger’s side this season, after losing out on the starting berth to Hector Bellerin last term due to an injury.
The 30-year-old has made only seven appearances so far this term and with Euro 2016 only months away, is keen on a move to get regular first team football.
The 61-year-old is looking to shore up his defence as he prepares his side for the relegation dogfight, and is keen on signing the Frenchman.

In a press conference this morning, Allardyce confirmed that Sunderland have made an initial approach to sign Debuchy, according to the Press Association, however it has not gone further.
Sunderland already have three right-backs in their ranks, a group which includes Adam Matthews, DeAndre Yedlin and Billy Jones.
However, Allardyce is looking to terminate the loan deal of Yedlin with Tottenham Hotspur and is looking to offload Matthews to a Championship outfit before the close of the transfer window.
