Turkish giants Besiktas have made contact with Thomas Vermaelen's agent as they look to put in place a summer deal for the Barcelona defender, according to Turkish outlet Fanatik.

Vermaelen left Arsenal for Barcelona in the summer of 2014, but instantly struggled with injury and managed just one appearance in the 2014/15 campaign.

This season has seen the Belgian play more often at the Camp Nou, but even so he has not established himself as a regular with Barcelona and may be available this coming summer.

Besiktas want to add Vermaelen to their ranks, but it remains to be seen how much the Turkish outfit are willing to pay for the former Arsenal man.

The Black Eagles currently lead the Turkish Super Lig table, with a cushion of four points over second placed Fenerbahce, although the Yellow Canaries have a game in hand.
