Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen was happy to see his players prove that he doesn’t have a set first eleven to choose from his squad this season.

Christiansen made several changes to the side that normally play in the league games and players such as Gaetano Berardi, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Mateusz Klich and Ronaldo Vieira got their opportunities against Burnley in the EFL Cup third round clash.

And the fringe players proved their acumen last night as Leeds defeated the Premier League team on penalties at Turf Moor and progressed to the next round of the competition.

The Leeds boss is delighted with the way some of his squad players approached the game with intent and admits that they proved that no one is certain to start a game in his squad because of the amount of options he has this season.

Christiansen told BBC Radio Leeds: “I was happy for the players and how they took to the game.

“It was an opportunity for them to show they are an important part of the squad and today they showed that there are no substitutes in my squad.

“I have many players who can start in the first eleven.”

It remains to be seen how many of last night’s starters get an opportunity when Leeds Ipswich Town at Elland Road on Saturday.
