Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has admitted that he is still looking to bring in another centre-back before the Scottish transfer window slams shut at the end of this month.
The Light Blues were made to pay the price for their shoddy defending against Motherwell during their Scottish Premiership clash on Sunday, that ended 3-3 at Fir Park.
Gerrard’s men conceded two goals from set-pieces to cap off a dismal performance at the back for the Gers, especially considering the fact that they had done all the hard work to establish a 3-2 lead despite going behind twice during the game.
Peter Hartley exposed the visitors’ defensive frailties once more when he scored from a set-piece in second half stoppage time and Gerrard was quick to take his fair share of the blame and added that the Light Blues are still in the market for strengthening their defence.
“Hopefully we can get a centre-back in, either on loan or in a permanent deal”, Gerrard was quoted as saying by the Herald Scotland.
Former West Brom defender Gareth McAuley is available on a free transfer at the moment and it is believed that Rangers have kept a close eye on the defender to try and convince him to move to Ibrox.
However, the transfer window clock is ticking for deals for players currently under contract at other clubs.
