Rangers have confirmed the signing of free agent Gareth McAuley on a one-year contract, leaving to Gers fans expressing their opinions on the announcement of the deal.

The centre-back parted ways with West Bromwich Albion after their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season and becomes the latest recruit for Rangers boss Steven Gerrard.

The 38-year-old will be looking to add experience to Rangers side and could make his debut after the international break when the Gers play host to Dundee at Ibrox. Twitter user and Rangers fan Coulibaly Cartel was happy with the signing due to the depth and experience brought in by McAuley.

Dave M feels Rangers have signed one of the most consistent Premier League defenders, reckoning it  to be a 'great signing' for the club.

On the other hand, Stiff Richard refuted fears of McAuley's age being a factor by citing the example of former Rangers man David Weir, who played well into his forties.

While Tbonez highlighted the player's prowess at winning balls in the air, BMac feels it will be an 'awesome experience' for the younger lads to learn from him.

Meanwhile, West Brom fan Andy assured the Light Blues fans that he won't let the Ibrox outfit down.
