Former Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson has warned the Gers players that there is no room for complaining about the busy schedule if they want to become successful at the highest level.

Thomson spent three years at Rangers and is currently back at his former club as an academy coach at Ibrox for the ongoing season.

The midfielder was also a star member of the Gers side that finished as the runners-up during the 2008 UEFA Cup campaign under Walter Smith, after they lost to Zenit Saint Petersburg in the final.

The former Scotland international knows about soaking up the pressure of the busy schedule while competing across various competitions and has urged the Light Blues to take it on the chin as they prepare for a busy week ahead.

“To think that the schedule is going to be difficult, that’s a lame excuse”, Thomson told the Evening Times.

“If you want to be at this club, you need to be fighting on all fronts. That’s not to say they are going to win them all but being successful brings a busy schedule.

“If you ask any player if they’d rather have a busy schedule and the chance to be successful in all competitions, I’m sure they’d all want that.

“I don’t think you’ll ever hear the manager using the excuse of players being tired”, he added.

Rangers will kick-off their Europa League campaign against Villarreal next Thursday after facing Dundee in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday at Ibrox.
