Former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer is sure that Harry Wilson will have a future at Anfield after his sublime performance against Manchester United in the EFL Cup.
Wilson, who is currently on loan at Derby County from Liverpool, took Old Trafford by storm when he helped Derby cause an upset over the Red Devils in the third round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday.
The winger scored from a free-kick to restore parity between the sides after Juan Mata had given the hosts an early lead and put in a sublime shift to help Frank Lampard’s men do the improbable away from home.
The 21-year-old also converted his penalty in the shootout without any issue, to help the Rams to a memorable and dramatic win at the Theatre of Dreams.
McAteer, who represented Liverpool during the 1990s, went on to claim that the young Wilson made the right decision to move to the Championship for regular playing time and insisted that he will have a bright future at Anfield.
“He's a talent. He was ready to go out [on loan]. It will do him a world of good”, McAteer said on LFC TV.
“It will toughen him up. The Championship comes game after game and you've got to be on it.
“I think he's got a future at Liverpool."
While Wilson's parent club Liverpool were knocked out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, Derby are waiting to find out who they will face in the next round.
