Liverpool legend Jan Molby believes Manchester City are not confident they can win their remaining nine games in the Premier League this season and has warned the Reds not to let the gap between themselves and Pep Guardiola's men grow.

The Reds were held to a 0-0 draw by Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday as defending champions Manchester City returned to the summit of the league table.

Guardiola’s men, who beat Bournemouth on Saturday, have now edged themselves ahead of Liverpool with a slender one-point lead in the race for the league title.

And despite Liverpool surrendering their pole position status to Manchester City on Sunday, Molby feels the Cityzens will not be confident of winning all their remaining games in the Premier League.

The Reds legend also warned Liverpool should not allow the table-toppers to open up a bigger gap at this stage of the season so that they remain within touching distance to make use of any slip-up.

“We're busy with City and how good they are and what they can do, but don't you think they will be concerned about going up against a team that have lost just once this season?”, Molby said on LFC TV after the Everton draw.

“They know they have to win the last nine games and I am not convinced they think they can do that.

“The key thing is the gap.

"It must remain at the level it is now so that when they slip up we are there.”

Liverpool will next face Burnley at Anfield on Sunday, while Manchester City host Watford at the Etihad Stadium on the previous day in the Premier League.
