Stewart joined the League One side on deadline day, making a surprise move and leaving Aberdeen, where he was the skipper.

Prior to making the loan switch Stewart had played the full 90 minutes in all but two of Aberdeen’s Scottish Premiership games, though his last match was the 6-0 humiliation at the hands of Hibernian.

Stewart explained that from playing previously against them, he knew he could not afford to miss the chance to come to MK Dons and he wants to help the English third tier side climb up the table.

The Aberdeen centre-back is eager to get started at MK Dons and excited to meet his team-mates, the backroom staff as well as the fans.

Speaking to MK Dons’ official site, Stewart said: “Having played against the Dons in the past, it was an exciting opportunity that I couldn’t miss.

“I am aware of the situation of the club and I look forward to bring my experiences to the squad and help them climb back up the table to where they belong.

“When I heard about interest from my agent, it was something I had to reflect on and take into consideration.

“MK Dons is a big club, with lots of potential and growth, and I look forward to meeting my teammates, the management and more importantly, the fans.

“I am prepped and geared on for the remaining season.”

MK Dons are not in the relegation zone in League One only due to goal difference, with three of the teams below them having played a match or more fewer, and Stewart will be hoping he can help the club steer clear of relegation.
