Long, 32, joined John Eustace’s side in January on a short-term deal until the end of the 2022/23 season.

The Irish centre-back was recruited by Eustace despite a lengthy absence from action at Premier League new boys Burnley.

After joining Birmingham City, he made 20 appearances in all competitions for Blues and was booked five times while finding the net once.

Long found himself on the released list published by the St. Andrew’s outfit in May after the conclusion of last season’s campaign.

Nonetheless, it is now claimed that the defender could return to Eustace’s side as Blues are eyeing shoring up their defensive ranks in the hopes of not getting dragged into a relegation battle next term.

Birmingham City are in the process of rejigging their squad this summer and they have already concluded deals for Tyler Roberts and Koji Miyoshi.

Now it remains to be seen whether Blues again will look to a veteran campaigner in the shape of Long and will eventually strike a deal with the centre-back moving forward.
