Southampton are looking to sign Liverpool midfielder Fabio Carvalho after his loan spell at RB Leipzig ended, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Liverpool shipped Carvalho to the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig in the summer on a season-long loan.

He struggled to make an impact at the club and though RB Leipzig wanted to keep hold of him, they ultimately agreed to requests from the player’s entourage and ended the loan.

Liverpool do not intend to keep Carvalho at Anfield for the second half of the season and are eyeing another loan.

And Russell Martin’s Southampton want to sign Carvalho.

Saints are looking to bolster their options in the winter transfer window and see the Liverpool man as a good acquisition.

Liverpool though want assurances over the amount of game time Carvalho would receive during the loan.

The Reds are determined to avoid another RB Leipzig situation where Carvalho kicks his heels on the bench.
