Former Leeds United star Leigh Bromby has warned the Whites that they cannot risk not signing a right-back in the ongoing transfer window with the position they are in in the league.

Leeds let Djed Spence and Luke Ayling leave Elland Road this month, leaving Daniel Farke shorthanded in the right-back role.

Although the Yorkshire outfit have been linked with several right-back targets, they have yet to bring in a player to Elland Road in the ongoing window.

Currently, Archie Gray, who is a midfielder, has been regularly featured in the right-back role for Leeds this season and Bromby questioned whether Farke is considering the 17-year-old as the starting right-back.

Although Bromby pointed out that Sam Byram can be considered a starter in the right-back role, he thinks that Leeds cannot take a risk by not signing a specialist right-back in this window.

“Who is the starting right back? For example, if you have a starting right-back, is it now Archie?, Bromby said on BBC West Yorkshire Sport.

“Is that now his position, or would he be more beneficial in midfield?

“If you had an out-and-out starter right-back, that might be Sam.

“In this position that Leeds are in, they cannot take any risk on thinking Sam is going to be fit.

“I think they have to look at it and think right: if we want to push for more, we are in a fantastic position; we cannot take any risk.”

Now it remains to be seen whether Leeds will be able to land a right-back before the transfer window closes on Thursday night.
