Aston Villa have booked a medical for Middlesbrough forward Morgan Rodgers in the next 24 hours after reaching a verbal agreement for his transfer, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Villans have so far remained quiet this month but are showing activity in the market in the last few days.

With just two days remaining for the window to close they are close to signing Middlesbrough’s Rogers, who has been an ever-present figure for Michael Carrick’s team this season.

Rogers has featured in 33 games overall for the team having made 16 goal contributions and is now close to securing a move to the Premier League.

Aston Villa have been hot on the heels of the player and after their final offer was accepted by Boro they are now close to sealing a move.

He has left Middlesbrough’s training ground and is travelling to Birmingham to seal the move.

Aston Villa have booked medical tests for Rogers in the next 24 hours following which they will hand him out a contract.

It remains to be seen how successful the 21-year-old can be at Villa Park under Unai Emery.
