Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United linked attacker Albert Gudmundsson has insisted that he is happy that he stayed at Genoa beyond the winter transfer window.

 

The 26-year-old attacker has been immense for Genoa this season, scoring eleven times in all competitions for the Italian side.

 

Several clubs were interested in signing him in the winter transfer window and Tottenham and Newcastle were believed to be keen on getting their hands on the Iceland international, with their interesting now persisting.

 

 

 

Fiorentina also pushed hard to sign the player towards the end of the window but Genoa remained steadfast on not wanting to sell Gudmundsson.

 

Gudmundsson admitted that he is happy to stay at Genoa despite the frantic rumours around his future towards the end of the window.

 

 

He stressed that he has certain objectives that he wants to achieve at Genoa this season.

 

The Iceland attacker said on DAZN Italia (via Calciomercato.com): “The last few days of the winter transfer window were a bit special, but I’m happy to have stayed at Genoa.

 

 

“I feel I can achieve the seasonal objectives I set for myself here.”

 

Genoa have already indicated that they are likely to entertain offers of around €35m for Gudmundsson in the summer.
