Sean Raggett has expressed his delight at keeping his promise of getting Portsmouth promoted back to the Championship and feels that is the minimum level the club deserve to be at.

A 3-2 win over Barnsley on Tuesday night confirmed Portsmouth’s promotion to the second tier of English football as League One champions.

Once a stable club in the Premier League, Portsmouth have been missing from the Championship for 12 years and the fans are delighted to see them get back to that level.

Raggett joined Portsmouth from Norwich in 2019 and promised to get them back to the Championship at Fratton Park almost five years ago.

The defender conceded that it took a while but he is pleased to fulfil the promise he made to the Portsmouth fans.

He admitted that it has been quite a journey for him at Portsmouth and he is finally happy to achieve what he signed up for in 2019.

Raggett told BBC Radio Solent: “It took a long time but I told you that I wasn’t going to leave this club without getting them promoted to the Championship.

“It’s the minimum where we deserve to be and I am over the moon now.

“Five years of hard work and graft, been through some bad times and some good times and met some amazing people over here.

“This is why I signed and I am buzzing.”

Raggett has made 238 appearances for Portsmouth but as things stand, he will be out of contract this summer.
