Chelsea have established contact with the entourage of Antonio Conte intending to get him back to Stamford Bridge to replace Mauricio Pochettino at the end of the season, it has been suggested in Italy.

Mauricio Pochettino took charge of Chelsea last year but the team have failed to progress under the Argentinian this season.

They are sitting ninth in the Premier League table and are set to miss out on European football for the second year running.

Chelsea are considering replacing him at the end of the season and it is claimed they have laid their eyes on former Blues boss Conte.

According to Italian daily La Repubblica (via Calciomercato.com), talks have already taken place between Conte’s representatives and Chelsea.

The Italian was the last manager to win the Premier League for Chelsea in 2017 but left the club a year later in acrimonious circumstances.

The new Chelsea management are pushing to convince him to return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

The club are expecting a definitive answer on whether he is open to a return to Chelsea soon.

The Blues are prepared to make a financially lucrative offer to Conte if he agrees to take the reins of the club ahead of next season.

Conte is also of interest to Italian giants Napoli.
