Former Rangers striker Michael Mols feels that Sam Lammers did not have players around him at Ibrox who supported him and has backed his move to FC Twente.

The 27-year-old joined the Gers last summer but struggled to make an impact in the first half of the season.

He joined Dutch outfit FC Utrecht in the second half of the previous campaign and made a whopping 13-goal contributions in 18 league appearances.

Lammers has now left Rangers to join Twente on a permanent deal and Mols is disappointed it did not work out for him at Ibrox.

Mols believes that Lammers did not have the players around him who could have supported him, which is different to when he was at the club.

“I think it is a shame that he did not succeed at Rangers. In my time I had players around me who supported me, he did not have that”, Mols told ESPN.nl about Lammers.

“So it was a lot harder for him.”

However, Mols is not convinced that Rangers are pulling the plug on Lammers too soon as he thinks the striker suits the football in the Eredivisie better.

“No [it’s not too soon for him to go], Scottish football is simply not for him.

“He is much better suited to the Netherlands, as we have seen again at Utrecht.

“And Twente is a step up.”

Rangers are set to bank just over £3m from selling Lammers and boss Philippe Clement will look to use those funds to strengthen the squad.
