Molde coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that highly rated centre-back Vegard Forren is in talks to leave the club.

The Norwegian has been linked with a whole host of sides, including Solskjaer’s former club Manchester United, who have enquired about the defender, Everton, whose manager David Moyes watched Forren in November, and fellow English Premier League outfit Fulham. Outside England there is interest too, with teams from Belgium, Germany and Holland also having kept a close eye on his progress.

Forren saw his stock rise again this season as he helped Molde claim their second successive Norwegian title.

He failed to show for a team meeting while on international duty yesterday and speculation soon spread that he was in talks with another club.

And Solskjaer has now confirmed that this is the case, though he has refused to reveal to where Forren might be heading.

"Yes, Vegard did not travel to the team meeting, because we are in the final stage of talks with a club", Solskjaer told Norwegian daily Romsdals Budstikke.

"It is possible that Vegard will travel for a medical and to negotiate a contract. As the national team travel on Thursday morning, we might have to rush this through. Drillo [Norway coach Egil Olsen, ed.] was very understanding."

And on where Forren might end up, Solskjaer replied: "It is not quite finished yet, so I will not comment further.

"But he is very close to a move."

Forren has so far won five caps at senior international level with Norway, operating alongside Brede Hangeland, and has been tipped for big things.

Norway are due to play South Africa in a friendly on 8th January, before taking on Zambia on 12th January.
