Everton have made an enquiry about loaning Juventus midfielder Luca Marrone, as new manager Roberto Martinez continues to push to bolster his squad, but have been told a permanent offer is the only way to proceed.

The 23-year-old, who can operate in defence or midfield, looks set to see playing time with Antonio Conte’s men at a premium for the forthcoming campaign.

And according to Sky Italia, Everton have offered to solve that problem by taking the former Italy Under-21 international on loan.

However, Juventus are not keen on loaning out Marrone and instead informed Everton that the midfielder could be bought for €10m.

The Toffees are unlikely to push ahead on that basis and, unless Juventus change their stance, a deal looks out of reach.

Marrone is a product of Juventus’ youth system and has represented Italy at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level.

He enjoyed a spell on loan at fellow Italian club Siena in the 2010/11 campaign.
